Every March 5, National Gas Day is celebrated, in memory of the creation of the National Gas Directorate (which would later become Gas del Estado) in 1945, following the merger of the YPF Gas Department with the Compañía Primitiva de Gas.
One of the main milestones that constitutes the sector was the creation of the longest gas pipeline in the world at that time, with 1,600 kilometers in length. He managed to bring gas from Comodoro Rivadavia to multiple homes in Buenos Aires, paving the way for the development of various productive sectors and promoting social progress in aspects related to security, domestic equipment and health.
If we talk about today, the most recent development is the progress of the gas pipeline that will take gas from Vaca Muerta to the province of Buenos Aires, which little by little is beginning to have a great impact within the industry. Furthermore, in the first month of 2024, gas production in our country exceeded 81 million cubic meters per day, with an interannual jump of almost 13%.
It is important to highlight that our energy matrix shows that the largest source of energy is gas, followed by oil and lastly we can see renewable energies such as solar, wind and hydraulic.
